Downgrade of A&E at HRI

What do you understand about the changes?

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHT) are in discussion with Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Group (GHCCG) about possible big changes that could take place at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI). Managers are asking whether HRI and the other hospital in the Trust, the Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) in Halifax need to change the way that they are organised.

The Governing Bodies of both Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group and Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Groups met in parallel on the 20 January 2016 to discuss their overall readiness for a public consultation on the future of hospitals services in their respective areas.

The joint CCG’s voted they were ready to proceed to formal consultation with the public.

UPDATE: The consultation period has now come to a close, a decision regarding the proposed changes has been made and the CCGs decided to continue with the proposed plans and create a full business case.

What happens next?

  • The Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Panel are meeting in November to consider the CCGs’ response to their recommendations.
  • Should it not be possible for the CCGs and the JHOSC to reach agreement in relation to their recommendations, there would initially be a period of reconciliation after which, if agreement still could not be reached, the Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny panel could make a decision to refer to the Independent Reconfiguration Panel.
  • The next stage for the CCGs will be to confirm the timescale for the production of the full business case.
