Disgusted

December 3, 2018
I’ve been a patient at Kirkheaton Surgery for over 30 years and watched it go downhill since the departure of Dr Barnwell. I have had to move out of the immediate area but was still happy to travel to this doctors as I have continual treatment for a chronic illness and have recently had further health issues which are ongoing. I received an appointment letter to my new address requesting a blood test as part of my treatment which I took time off work to attend only to be told I was no longer their patient so the appointment had been cancelled. This practice has my mobile number which I receive texts when appointments have been booked, why did they not have the decency to inform me before I turned up on the day for my appointment. With new health worries this is a scary time to be left without a doctors!

Care following chest infection

January 15, 2017
We had one urgent appt and 2 follow up appts with a chest X-ray after the first. We had a phone call telling us the X-ray was clear, and good communication and treatment at the following visits, all help to give confidence when dealing with difficult situations.

New Faces

October 23, 2016
I have been a patient at this surgery for over 25 years ,and even though the faces have changed ,new doctors and staff I still find the service and care to be first class.
yes it may be harder to get the appointment you want ,at the time you want ,but this is not the fault of the surgery , this is due to the state of the Nhs and the fact that surgeries are overwhelmed by the large number of people moving into the area , bit like trying to get a litre in a pint pot really

Resources are lacking

August 3, 2016
I have been visiting the practice for 20 years and it has been varied. One of the doctors which has now left was outstanding and sorely missed. Overall I think they try their best but resources are lacking. Receptionists are much more friendly and approachable now. Change of doctors is unavoidable but un-nerving especially for older people. I don't think there is enough follow up- once again down to resources but this is worrying particularly for the elderly and vulnerable. The appointments (especially more urgent ones) are very inaccessible. For example my dad has dementia and needed an appointment for tomorrow with a doctor he is familiar with and they say to ring up at 8.30am tomorrow. The problem is that it takes my mum a long time to get him ready to go out. If they have a morning appointment they need to be up really early and have no transport of their own. I would like to see the practice be more dementia friendly . One of the doctors for the appointment today was excellent. I understand that doctors cannot stop patients taking more than 10 minutes if they are in full flow

Mr Massey
Thank you for your positive comments, we are trying our best to give the best possible service to all our patients
I appreciate the comments regarding needing later appointments for your Dad, I can put a message on your fathers record saying that you prefer later appointments. If you have a problem again about getting an appointment please ask to speak to the Reception Manager John Carter

Improving service

August 3, 2016
This surgery has had a lot of problems recently with staff changes. I now only recognise the name of one of the doctors who recently returned to the practice. I do feel however that there have been some improvements lately. One improvement would be to stop closing for half a day on a Thursday

A few mix ups

August 3, 2016
There has been a couple of mix ups and confusion over prescriptions and bandages for my child especially the online email prescription service. There is an email and password combination for the online account which can become confusing. The staff were helpful and sorted the issue for me. I think it is to do with the communication between the hospital and doctors. All the staff and doctors are fine. I think that telephone appointments should be available to free up the surgery appointments but they are not available at this surgery. The lady doctor at the practice is very good and on the ball
