Musculoskeletal Service (Locala)

The MSK (Musculoskeletal) service provides assessment and treatment of patients with complex musculoskeletal conditions - these usually affect the joints, muscles, bones and soft tissue. The team includes 3 GP’s with a specialist interest in Musculoskeletal Medicine, 8 Advanced Clinical Practitioners in Physiotherapy, and an Advanced Clinical Podiatrist. The team will diagnose and manage your condition and support you with a tailored plan of care. This could include referral for physiotherapy, further investigations such as MRI, X-Ray or blood tests, injection treatment which can be offered in our clinic or onward referral for a surgical opinion or pain management. There is a community clinic based at Princess Royal Community Health Centre, providing assessment and treatment of patients with complex musculoskeletal conditions - these usually affect the joints, muscles, bones and soft tissue. 10 clinicians are supported by members of the admin team.

the staff are nice and helpful but

nice friendly staff but if you need to call them they never seem to answer then discharge you after calling from a weird looking +44 number instead of a normal 07etc number

I am sorry that you have struggled to contact the team. We call patients from our laptops so the number will often appear differently to a mobile telephone number or land line. We have plans to address this for 2024 as we know its confusing !

prefer going to hospital

whenever I need an injection in my hip they don't put the numbing gel on so i prefer going to the hospital

not much help

I am referred back to MSK repeatedly and they just give me the same exercises again and again that are not much help and don't do much good. I always see a different person topo which I don't think helps.

Poor service

The good. Therapist who “treated me” appeared knowledgeable and caring.
The bad. She suggested trying Pilates to solve my issue. Apart from this, she also gave me a telephone number to call if I decided I wished to undergo some form of therapy - I was to call the direct MSK number to make appointments. I phoned several times, left two clear and precise messages why I was calling, who I was and who had given me the number and heard absolutely nothing back from anyone.

Neck and arm pain for 2 years

I was referred to this service by my GP . In 9 mouth I've had 3 appointment and spend 12 minutes with the doctor . Ever time I'm sit waiting for 40 minutes or more . After been referred for physio therapist . I have never been in so much pain . You can't an appointment now . If you do get through to someone they is no appointment available. This service is a waste of money and my time .

Poor waiting times

Waiting times- very oversubscribed. Taken 9 months from referral to appointment and then waiting for scans etc. Great booking systems - online with and password.
