Should people who smoke have to wait for planned operations?

Recently, the NHS in York announced plans to delay some non-emergency operations for patients who smoke.

This means that, patients who smoke could have many non-emergency operations delayed for up to 6 months.

If people stopped smoking for eight weeks, they too could have their operations earlier.
