3 months down line and haven’t got to see a doctor yet
Told I had to see a female doctor
June 9, 2023
The week preceding the Easter holidays, I called the practice to make an appointment because I had noticed worrying changes in one of my breasts (I am 69 and my mother had breast cancer). The receptionist was very polite and said she would ‘triage’ my concerns. She rang me back to say the doctor she had talked to said that I must see a female doctor (out of 3 doctors, only 1 is female). As I told the receptionist almost all doctors throughout my life have been male and I therefore have no hesitation in seeing a male doctor especially for what I considered to be an urgent appointment. I felt that the receptionist agreed with me but again reiterated that I must see the female doctor. The female doctor was currently on holiday (during school holiday times, there is usually only one doctor available for appointments) and that the first time I could see her would be over 2 weeks away. Notices in the surgery state that chaperones are available in the event of ‘intimate’ appointments. I was not offered this alternative.
Great

The surgery is great - always seen and needs met.
On one occasion I forgot about my appointment and I rang up after I had missed it and they still fit me in the same day!

Impossible to get an appointment

Unable to use the NHS ‘book an appointment’ app. It often takes 25 minutes to get through to the receptionist. I am told that on Mondays the doctors are not taking appointments???? ‘They are dealing with leftovers from the weekend’!!! The doctors do not seem to leave any time in the day to deal with ‘urgent care’ appointments. You are told that the doctor will ‘triage’ your condition and ring you at some point. After presenting at the surgery at 8:30 am and informing the receptionist that my husband was having breathing difficulties, the GP did not return the call until 4pm that afternoon. In the meantime, I had to call 999 and my husband was rushed to Calderdale Hospital!!!
Their website says that they are open until 6:30pm each day but I have yet to see any cars in the car park after 5pm.

You can't ring for prescriptions - but i have asked for them to recommend medication over the phone. No problems with the doctors themselves.
