Dental Services (Locala)

Locala Dental Care is a unique service that provides specialist-led NHS dental care and treatment for children and adult special care patients living in Calderdale and Kirklees. Their service user groups include adults who have: moderate/severe and profound multiple learning disabilities; moderate/severe physical and/or communication impairment; moderate/severe chronic mental health conditions including dementia; complex medical conditions; People who require bariatric facilities (body mass index over 40); For those people with a BMI between 30 and 40 there should be an additional health need, with the additional health need being the primary reason for referral. The service also provides specialist led paediatric dental services for children with: moderate/severe and profound multiple learning disabilities; moderate/severe physical and/or communication impairment; moderate or severe behavioural problems; severe dental anxiety or dental phobias; children in need and with child protection plans, with additional or complex needs; looked after children with additional or complex needs or complex social problems other additional needs such as substance misuse; clefts, abnormalities of dental development or dental trauma of increased complexity; other complex dental conditions. They also provide the following services: Inhalation sedation in central clinics Home visits for housebound patients

Cancelling appointments

I had an appointment for this month but it got cancelled to someone being ill, they gave me another appointment for next month but they’ve cancelled that one now.

Can't praise enough - AMAZING¬

My daughter was referred to you after being terrified of the ‘regular’ dentist and was referred as she was so frightened; her local dentist couldn’t do anything with her due to the fear and anxiety she experienced. We first attended Princess Royal and immediately was put at ease. The compassion and empathy staff showed her was unbelievable. They made her at ease and gave her confidence. After a few sessions at Princess Royal and needing more work, we moved closer to home to the Batley centre, so that she wouldn’t miss as much school. This was upsetting to her, however she understood that she couldn't miss much more school. I reassured her and said that Batley would be just as lovely – and they most definitely were!

I cannot praise the dentist's efforts enough! From a scared, terrified child into a confident young person who has had fillings, extractions and more – yet would walk into see the dentist with a smile (I think my anxiety was worse than hers!) The terrified child that wouldn’t even sit in the chair, to the child that confidently walked in every time with no fear in the world – as a mum I cannot thank you enough. The dentist was kind and patient, was understanding of her feelings and would always listen to her questions with an empathetic manner. He didn't judge or make her worry about the dental visits, and just generally put her at ease - so thank you so much for all your efforts.
All the dental assistants were just as amazing and made a fuss which helped her immensely. I cannot praise your service enough. We are saddened that we are now discharged from the dental service, however we are hoping to find a new dentist who can instil the same confidence that this dentist and his colleagues have. unfortunately she has complex dental issues, and she now has had all her treatment and I think (and hope) the fear of the dentist is now a thing of the past. Thank you so much for everything

They passed on information of what treatment was needed and put me at ease. They stopped treatment when I asked, that's what's important to me. They listened to what I have to say. Happy with me

Getting a dentures

I started my treatment in 2015 at princess royal and they still not finished!
Since my dentist had a injury then she took 14 teeth out in July 2016 since my dentist left! I have been suffering with jaw ache and not been able to eat! They gave me a new dentist, he wanted to take all my teeth out but that wasn't originally what was arranged! I have been back 4time since last year and now he has told me I'm going to be given to someone else!
He took a imiprint of my mouth and has injured my mouth! After my last bad time with them! I have no faith in them! If I need a emergency appointment I need to call 111 up! This is not acceptable when princess royal is my dentist! I suffer from Klinefelter syndrome/ Osteoporosis They sent me for a X-ray and said I had a fracture but they heal on there own! this is why I feel I'm dizzy and having so many problems!
