Podiatry (Locala)

The Podiatry Service offers assessment, diagnosis and treatment of problems associated with the foot and lower limb. We help patients to maintain their own foot health through advice, education, and support. They offer care for people with medical conditions that mean their feet are 'at risk‘ of developing complications such as foot ulceration, or people who have significant foot problems.

Orthotics for painful feet

January 26, 2022
Have had painful feet for 30 years and tried every orthotic on the market and bespoke commercially produced orthotics as well but no dramatic improvement. Had a full foot assessment and 2 prs of bespoke orthotics designed and built for my feet which I have worn for the last 2 years and have been life changing. I can now walk any distance I like and enjoy the day without having severe pain on the day and for a couple of days afterwards. I can't thank you enough.

Home visit

March 25, 2019
I asked for a home visit for my 100 year old mother on the 6th of March. Her last home visit was in December. I phoned again today, but still can't be given a date. She is now having pain as her nail is digging into her toe. I appreciate that your staff are busy, but I hope that there will be a visit soon.

the travesty about getting an appointment!

January 24, 2019
It took 3 months to get to see somone about getting foot and toenail care as I cannot reach my toes due to joint problems, only to find that at my appointment on 24th January 2019 you are NO LONGER PROVIDING this care! I suppose just waisting my time isn't important? Couldn't you have contacted me to save me the cost and effort in going to a waste of time appointment? This shows just what a waste of space LOCALA is!

I was very sorry to hear of your concerns regarding your appointment with podiatry today. Unfortunately, you were referred to the service at a time of change and I would like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.

Previous patient referrals received by podiatry before the changes, had to be accepted under the earlier criteria and appointments offered when available. From 2 January 2019, all patients within the service are being assessed at their appointment, to review if they meet the criteria for the new service or not. Regrettably, the podiatry service cannot make assumptions about whether patients would, or would not, meet the service criteria without seeing them. I am very sorry that due to the timing of the service changes, this assessment was at your first ever appointment as you described, and I would like to offer my apologies for the upset and inconvenience caused.

If you would like to discuss your concerns in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact Locala's Customer Liaison Team on 0303 003 4529 (option 1).

Left untreated

January 12, 2019
Bit disappointed by the care I received. I was told I had a serious infection in my foot because of my diabetes but was not given s prescription for antibiotics which left me with a foot ulcer that got worse and I had to go to Accident and emmergency to get treated. I was told when I complained that the podiatry clinic don’t have the skills to treat people and give prescriptions for antibiotics.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on the Healthwatch website. I am very sorry to hear that you have been disappointed by the service provided. I can confirm that podiatrists are not prescribers and therefore they would be unable to prescribe antibiotics. However, I would like to investigate your care, and the concerns you raise, to make sure you were given the right support and advice from the podiatry service regarding the infection. I would therefore be very grateful if you could contact our patient enquiry line on 030 3003 4529 (option 1) and provide more details of your experience.

Found other problems and treated accordingly

Staff really good, helpful and friendly.
Ten week period to treat abscess, and in doing so they found something else and is being treated
Unstable on my feet and they keep moving my department, costs a fortune in taxi.

Worth the wait

August 14, 2018
Service is worth the wait. You can sit and wait in the clinic - it's a long wait, but it's by choice that you do. No complaints.

Podiatry Services

October 19, 2017
I always received a good experience until recently. Problems arose when an aspect of the service was transferred to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and i wasn't informed of the change of location. So i went to the wrong place for an appointment. I'm now reluctant to seek another appointment.
