Smokers in Kirklees urged to be quitters on No Smoking Day 2017

March 1, 2017

Every year No Smoking Day, taking place on Wednesday 8 March this year, is the launch pad to a smoke free life for thousands of people in the UK.

If you are a smoker, stopping smoking is the best thing you can do for your own health and the health of those around you. You will start to see the benefits very quickly, not only to your health but also to the money in your pocket.

Dr David Kelly, Chair of NHS North Kirklees Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said:

“We understand that the majority of smokers want to stop smoking, but many find the task too daunting. No Smoking Day is the perfect opportunity to inspire smokers in Kirklees to quit for good.”

In addition to cigarettes, it’s important to remember that tobacco that you don’t smoke (including paan, betel quid and chewing tobacco) is not a ‘safe’ way to use tobacco. It causes cancer and can be as addictive as smoking.

Several different treatments are available from shops, pharmacies and on prescription to help you beat your addiction and reduce withdrawal symptoms.  Speak to your GP or pharmacist for support to stop.

If you want to stop smoking there are also online resources including an app that can support you to stop or cut down https://www.nhs.uk/smokefree .
