Example of a best practice response

Having realised overnight that what had started as a winter cold had evolved into an infection, I telephoned the surgery early morning on 13th December 2023 and outlined my symptoms. I was number 6 in the queue and I got through to speak to someone within 5 minutes. I was given the option of either an in-person or telephone appointment. Based on my response, I was also asked if the triaging GP felt that it was appropriate, would I be willing to have a prescription for antibiotics without me seeing or speaking to a GP and I agreed that would be ok. I was advised that I would receive a related call back, once a GP had reviewed my symptoms. Within an hour, I had had the call back; been advised to collect a prescription that had been sent to my local pharmacy and I had taken the first dose - thereby benefitting from the advantage of an early intervention. My contact was responded to in a polite; friendly; understanding and empathic manner and I was pleased to note that each time that I spoke to a member of staff, from the practice, they proactively stated their name. My patient experience left me feeling positively supported and I have nothing but praise for the way in which my needs were fully met, on this occasion.
Good quality of care

The quality of care is good but I just wish there were more face to face appointments available as I am often told they have been taken and there is a long wait for the next available face to face appointment. Although I do get a telephone consultation its just not the same in my opinion.

Dr Iqbal is very good. Seen some others who aren't as good but when I ask to see him they usually get me in ok. Waiting times not so bad.

Doctors are unreachable and receptionists will not request the doctor call back unless

The doctors are great

The GPs at this surgery are great and my score is purely a reflection of the gps. The admin staff on the other hand are rude, loud ignorant and unsympathetic. When they ring you or they answer the phone there is no warmth, they simply say "Westbourne Surgery". My personal view is it is badly managed by the practice manager.

Personally I have had good experience with my doctors surgery. I can always get an appointment without difficulty. Never a real problem. Happy overall.

Been with hem since I was a teenager & they had a female GP then. She's now retired and they're now all male doctors and that makes some conversations difficult. Have told them my point of view.

Excellent practice, hard to get appointment

The doctors and nurses have always provided me and my family with excellent care. The reception staff are professional. It can be difficult to book an appointment because I work and can't be flexible, often booking appointments weeks in advance, but it's slightly better now they have early appointments on a Thursday.
