Relative of admitted elderly mogher
ward 10- 11
June 24, 2023
My mother was admitted from PGH A&E to ward 8. She was exhausted and was found laid flopped over on her back by myself the following morning laying in the wrong direction with cornflakes soggy as she had not been able to eat without a beep going off from her drip in every mouthful, if it had been in her other arm it would have been more manageable. This went on for all the time l stayed until was flushed by her nurse. The IV was stopping and starting.
The ward was noisy and extremely busy , mum told me that a nurse had spent a long time with her trying to compete forms but mum couldn't hear or understand her accent and was very frustrated.
I was asked to leave at the end of visiting but felt that l needed to stay as the ward appeared short staffed.
The corridors in the wards were obstructed with equipment and porters had difficulty maneuvering trolleys. A fire hazard.
The meals were described by my mum as having been reheated up from the previous day or else cold and so unpalatable.
My mother had been moved to ward 11 on the 2nd day and was extremely tired but placed next to a television that blared out next to her at high volume so preventing her from sleeping.
The staff on ward 11 were completely amazing, extremely caring and efficient and helped me with all of my enquiries but l felt that there was a huge shortage of avaailable physio which was needed due to constant bedrest and my mother's joints stiffening up.
The staff helped where they could providing a lovely bed.
The car park says that disability spaces are available but not until you enter and are obliged to stay does it say that there are no concessions for the disabled badge holders.
Staff moral needed a boost and they shouldn't have to pay for parking at their work.

Accident and emergency services

My elderly mother was treated with kindness and respect whilst having an x-ray for a fractured jaw. The doctor quickly arranged a specialist appointment at Pinderfields the following day at a suitable time for us.

I suffer from hospital-related anxiety and I live near Pinderfields but was referred to a consultant DDH which was overwhelming for me as I am used to my local hospital. However, I was sent a letter in plenty of time and with lots of information about how to find the hospital/entrance/ parking info etc. It was great is allowed me to be completely prepared for travelling to the appointment.
I was seen within minutes of arriving and then sent for a blood test - the waiting area was just next door so again less anxiety for myself. Really please with the experience.

Lack of compassion and care

I really understand that the service is busy but the doctors and nurses are rude and passive aggressive. After waiting 4 hours in a and e, a little compassion would not go amiss. Also, when shouting out names, the workers are very quiet that people who are hard of hearing cannot hear.

My husband was transferred to Dewsbury Hospital from Pinderfields and was in there for 8 weeks…… during this time he was in Ward 10 and my family and I were blown away with the care and attention of all the staff here. ….communication
was excellent and we were able to speak with his doctor frequently and his consultant periodically and they were very clear with their information. …..unfortunately
my husband passed away recently and the staff were so sympathetic and helpful and caring and it made all our family feel warm and cared for. ….I realise a lot of patients and their families have had different experiences but felt I had to document the wonderful care we had at Dewsbury. ……thank you Ward 10 from the bottom of our hearts.

I noticed very poor infection control
Accident and emergency services
March 29, 2022
During our recent visit on Monday 28th March we witnessed a patient become unconscious as she fell to the ground she vomited all over the floor and lost bowel control .
She was taken out of the main room . But the bodily fluids remained on the floor for well over 20/30 mins .
I requested that it needed to be cleaned and had to warn patients not to walk on it as they entered .
My husband is a wheelchair user and the incident happened in the row in front of us .
As we were called I had to push the wheelchair over this mess , hence spreading it further in the room .
This was infection control at its worst. As evidence I have images of the bodily fluids and how close it was to where we sat .

I was on the waiting list for a surgery when my health started to deteriorate.
I requested the doctor and my surgery was carried out on an urgent basis.
